about

Some concepts are curiously linked. For example, most people would say "bouba" sounds round while "kiki" sounds jagged, even though the idea of "sounding round" is kind of a meaningless concept. Synesthetes are well aware of this phenomenon and it's also used fairly liberally in magical traditions.

Another curious thing is the way we think of concepts as opposites without any coherent idea of what makes something the opposite of something else. I can see how "light" is the opposite of "dark" in that light is an absence of darkness and vice versa, but in what way is coffee the opposite of tea, or cats the opposite of dogs?

The danger of arbitrarily linked concepts is that you stop being able to perceive subtle differences between things and the danger of arbitrarily opposed concepts is that we have a tendency to judge one as superior to the other. The former leads to depression, the latter to hatred.

Being able to perceive differences and not judge them can be a powerful psychological tool. I don't think it's always the right thing, I reserve the right to think of some tings as fundamentally good or bad, but when you are in danger of slipping in either direction, taking some time off in the neither-neither world can be a very helpful thing. Or harmful thing.
